Where to Buy Grass-Fed Beef in Ontario
The most reliable way to buy grass-fed beef in Ontario is directly from a farm that raises and finishes its cattle on grass — through an on-farm store, a farmers' market stall, or a delivery box. We're one of those farms: 1876 Heritage Farms in Oro-Medonte delivers 100% grass-fed and grass-finished Black Angus beef across Ontario, and you can also pick up at the farm.
What should I ask before buying from any farm?
The words "grass-fed" on their own don't tell you much — Canada has no single mandatory certification behind them. Wherever you buy, ask:
- Is the beef grass-finished as well as grass-fed, or is it finished on grain?
- Were the cattle raised on this farm start to finish, or bought in?
- How is the herd managed — rotational grazing, or a single pasture?
- Is the beef sold frozen at peak freshness, and cut by a provincially or federally inspected facility?
A farm that welcomes those questions is usually a farm worth buying from. Ours are answered across this site — see Our Story and Regenerative Practices — and you can ask the farm assistant anything the pages don't cover.
Where can I buy grass-fed beef near Toronto and the GTA?
You don't need to live beside a farm to buy from one. We deliver to Toronto and the rest of the Greater Toronto Area for a flat $12, and delivery is free on orders over $250. Order by Sunday 11:59 PM and your box arrives Thursday that week, frozen and insulated.
Does anyone deliver grass-fed beef across the rest of Ontario?
Yes — we deliver everywhere in Ontario. Outside the GTA the flat rate is $18, with the same free-over-$250 threshold and the same Sunday-to-Thursday rhythm. We don't currently ship outside Ontario.
Can I visit the farm and buy in person?
Yes. Our farm store at 1929 Penetanguishene Road in Oro-Medonte (Simcoe County, about 20 minutes from Barrie and 40 from Orillia) is open Thursday 12–4, Friday 10–4, and Saturday 10–4. Farm pickup for online orders is free — order by Sunday, collect from Thursday.
What's the best-value way to buy?
Per-pound, a box beats single cuts, and a bigger box beats a smaller one — that's the economics of buying closer to the whole animal. Start with our beef-box guide (see Beef Boxes and Buying in Bulk) or build your own box on the box builder, one-time or on a 4- or 8-week rhythm you can skip, pause, or cancel anytime.
